Hello everyone,
Not posted up here for a while, just been really busy.
I did a road race last month, the Inter-club 25 mile at Donnigton and came 6th in 1:01:34. Not a great time but it was rather windy, and Sleaford Wheelers, my road club, took the win in the team event.
Next up was the BMBS race at Margam, some proper hills at last. It had rained constantly the day before but race day was lovely and sunny. We therefore had the unusual combination of deep mud and general bogginess and lack of grip combined with sunburn and dehydration. I usually hate the wet but this was a bit of a race of attrician (attricion. No. Attrishun, definitely not. No spill checker on here), which is the kind of thing I usually like. I was still moving at the end and finished 25th. Steve unfortunately wasn't still moving at the end. Not moving at all in fact due to being immobilised because of a suspected neck injury, see his blog for his account of his helicopter ride.
Another road race, the Lincolnshire 50 mile at Great Limber, near Scunthorpe. This was a nice undulating course, a total of 2,119ft of climbing. I finished 13th in 2:11:54, which was good enough for silver in our team championship.
And last but not least, the Midland Series race at Hanchurch last weekend. Another fantastic course from them, shame it's private land as it would be good to go back between races. The forecast rain never really happened, a little bit on the first lap, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Finished 8th in the end so quite happy with that. Andrew C had a less successful race, which ended in a heap on the floor and a slow painful walk back.
Next up, Nationals at Richmond, Yorkshire not Surrey, on Sunday (Saturday for Jon) We'll be there from Friday night, come and say hello if you see us.
